Our oratory contest proved quite successful this year. There were seven junior/ senior contestants for the National Contest, and four freshmen and sophomores for the Local Contest. Lake County Right to Life’s Oratory Contest that is part of the National Right to Life Oratory Contest.
Our contest took place on Saturday, March 19th, at Highland Pubic Library.
The judges this year were Mike Neal, Dr. Carole Reeves, and Brenda Huerter. Also helping the contest run smoothly were our greeter/registrar, Mario Lopez, and our timekeeper, Dan Buksa. Naturally we have to thank all those who provided refreshments for the guests. The contestants were so impressive!!
Lauren Hinson, who spoke on embryonic stem cell research, senior at Hammond Baptist High School was the first place winner. Lauren also spoke at our Annual Banquet. Our second place winner was Stephanie Millen, (pictured to the right).. Stephanie spoke on abortion.
These two, besides winning our monetary prizes, went on to Indianapolis on May 7, as entries in the Indiana Right to Life Competition. At the state level, Lauren Hinson took home 4th place, and Stephanie Millen won first place. Stephanie Millen will now go on to the Nationals in Jackson, Florida.
